After School

This program provides a unique opportunity for students of every denomination to partner in making a difference in the life of a child. Our student volunteers eat dinner with the children, play games, read stories, and help them with their homework. Every Wednesday, over 30 children, from  a local homeless shelter, come to Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College  to take part in the program. Student volunteers range in age, religion, and sexual orientation. This program serves an essential function to the community while providing students with the chance to learn about each other. Free food is provided for all participants and students.

Blood Drive

An Annual March for Life Blood Drive is organized by student volunteers on a yearly basis. The team educates potential donors, as a result the New York Blood Center collects a high number of donations.

Mini Day Camp

Every summer children from Homeless Shelters around Brooklyn take part in a three-day mini camp experience with the Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College. Hillel volunteers help staff the trip along with Hillel’s professional staff.  Over three days children from a local shelter are given a camp experience complete with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sports, music and field trips.

Day of Good Deeds

An alternative break is about service and learning, a different way to spend time off from school. We reach out to local community partners in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, nursing homes and other local agencies to help those in need. In addition to local opportunities, we travel to other locations to help terminally ill children and their families. These project embody the spirit of community and couples with our core Jewish values of Tikkun Olam/Repairing the World, Chessed/Kindness and Tzedakah/Charity.

Fashion Show Fundraiser

Every year the students of the Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College design, organize, and produce a top-caliber Fashion Show to raise money for a worthy charity. Over 250 students and members of the community regularly attend the event, which receives public recognition.

This amazing event will take place during the Spring Semester on March 3rd. If you would like to get involved, either as models, makeup artists, hair stylists, DJ, sponsor, etc please let us know at Yelena@bchillel.org.

Thanksgiving

This might very well be the longest running program at Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College. Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College has hosted a Thanksgiving dinner to feed homeless people in Brooklyn. Tanger Hillel partners with fraternities, sororities, and clubs on campus. Student volunteers coordinate, plan, and implement the program. The entire event is student-run. It is a staple of Tanger Hillel's at Brooklyn College ongoing commitment to the Brooklyn community.

This event will take place on November 27th. If you would like to get involved and are interested in more details, please email yelena@bchillel.org
