Shabbat

Holidays

Call them what you will: Holidays, Chagim (festival or holiday), Yom Tovim (good day) - just as long as you start off the celebrations with us! Days and weeks leading up to a Jewish holiday we have programs for students from beginners (no Jewish education) to advanced (attended Yeshiva all their lives) to find inspiration, meaning and learn something new from their peers and professionals in the field. From building and decorating a sukkah on campus, to cooking homemade latkes, Hillel provides a comfortable atmosphere to celebrate the Jewish holidays in a variety of creative ways. All students are welcome!

If you are observing Jewish holidays and are unable to attend school due to a religious conflict, it counts as an excused absence. If you have any issues please contact Reuvenb@bchillel.org and we will help you. We suggest checking what days you may miss at the beginning of the semester and tell your professor when you will miss class ahead of time.

Shabbat at Hillel

We celebrate Shabbat as a big community 3-4 times a semester at the Hillel House. All meals are FREE with a theme of the night and there is always an awesome oneg (dessert & games) to follow. Check our calendar for specific dates.

Niche Shabbats

These meals are usually smaller and cater to the different communities we have at the Hillel. These Shabbat celebrations may be hosted at the Hillel House or someone’s home. If you would like to host a Shabbat in your home and get funding for it, please e-mail Yelena@bchillel.org.

Shabbat at the Boshnacks:

Rabbi Reuven and Rebbetzin Shira Boshnack open their lovely home to students and alumni to join them for Shabbat, be it for lunch, for dinner, or for Shalosh Seudos [the mystical meal conducted at the conclusion of the Sabbath]. For more information, please contact Reuvenb@bchillel.org.
